Our Location

Click here to see where we are and here for information on how to find us.

De Freville Avenue is a quiet tree-lined road just north of the River Cam. We are about 200m from the Fort St George footbridge which leads across the river to Midsummer Common.

From here you can head to the shops of the Grafton Centre, or cross Jesus Green past Jesus College to the historic city centre.

The Market Square and the central colleges are about 15 minutes away on foot. The University Library is a further 10 minutes. Theatres, cinemas, museums, restaurants and main shopping areas are all within walking distance. We are 2km from the Cambridge Science Park and the Cambridge Business Park and there is a good bus service to both from the end of our road.

The river walk to the city centre

The walk into the city centre is a pleasure in itself. The river is always alive with activity. On one side it is lined with University boathouses and the rowers take their chances with novice punters and the colourful barges that line the water edge. Ducks and swans glide downstream and, in Spring and Summer, there are flowers everywhere. There are pubs and restaurants along the river – and ice cream for sale in the summer!

The river runs along the edge of Midsummer Common and Jesus Green, both ancient areas of open parkland cut across by paths going in all directions.

The Commons are lined with majestic trees and manage to be both calm and peaceful spaces – and also a hive of activity. As well as walkers and cyclists, students practice ball games, youngsters enjoy the skateboard run, small children have a playground. There are tennis courts, a bandstand, an open air swimming pool and, at regular intervals throughout the year, a traveling fair arrives and takes up residence on Midsummer Common.

Walking in the other direction from our house, local shops, including banks, restaurants, pubs and a pharmacist, are about 5 minutes away.
